Review: I found Mr. Olsen’s Computer Slow video very well put together. The information was good except it has a little age on it now. I agree with his assessment of SpyBot and AVG that they are both free and excellent in what they do. These will help with computer slow issues. Tune Up however is not free. I prefer the speed test at “speakeasy” and not sure the one he mentions is functional now.

The following is a quick easy tip on speeding up a computer that is slow. I place this in the “it is almost too easy” category. Start up programs not only slow our pc’s down when they are starting but also while they are running these programs will use up RAM. They will also sometimes “come on” and ask to be updated even if you haven’t used the program in years and maybe didn’t even know it was on your computer.

Great question and great answer to why is my computer so slow, below.
In the answer if you have Windows Vista you will go from the Security Center into Window Update and then into Change Setting and there set it so it is not running automatic updates.
This can also work on computers that are running slow other than at startup too.
Question by chris s: PC is stuck at windows start up. Reads “Windows is starting up.” But does not. I closed svchost.exe.?
As soon as I turn my computer on and it gets stuck at “windows is starting up…” I have to hold the on button for a few seconds until it turns off again. This problem started happening after i turned my computer off, a few hours after ending process for svchost.exe. I’ve had a virus on my computer for a week, and since i got it my computer has been slowing down and svchost.exe has had high memory usage and CPU usage. i read somewhere that it could be used as a Trojan or something, so i ended the process for it. my computer worked fine for a few hours, until the sound stopped working, that’s when i turned it off.
I’ve tried messing around with the setup (f2 on start-up) and somehow (probably random luck) my pc went past the “windows is starting up…” screen and i was able to use my computer again, until i turned it off and the problem started again. While i was using my computer svchost.exe was back but it kept spiking to 100% cpu usage. Can anyone help?

A lot of the time when svchost.exe is taking up all your resources it’s because your windows update is going crazy. try shutting down your automatic updates in the CONTROL PANEL>>>SECURITY CENTER>>>AUTOMATIC UPDATES and click to turn them off. but be sure to do your updates. There are different things that might be slowing down your computer. also check your antivirus to be up to date. if you do not have one dl avast at http://www.avast.com/eng/download.html. i have this and use it on all my computers its great. also make sure to dl spybot search and destroy, cc cleaner, adware se personal. and update all of these and run them on in safe-mode. try this to see if it helps. to get to safe mode click on the f8 button when you restart your computer. let me know if this works. id like to know if i helped out or not.
This is also a different task manager that is more detailed this is also a walk through on how to use it. if you can get it to boot up this will help you out in the long run. Try running Process Explorer from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx and a tutorial to find the issue:
